It’s 4 kms far from Chora and it has been the main town of the island in the Byzantine Age and in the Middle Age. It’s a green inland village, ideal for naturists.

SIGHTSEEING
The church of Taxiarchis, built in the 12th century and renovated in the 18th century, at the district of Lamyra.

The village Menites, with the «Springs of Dionysos» god, where - according to the mythology - was gushing out wine. In Aladino you can visit the cave «Chaos» and in the village Messathouri the church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary (12th century).

Messaria is an inland village, so it’s an ideal place for excursions in the nature and visits to the beautiful villages around, as Menites, Aladino and Pitrofos, with the nice tavernas and traditional kafeneios.

Paleopolis is a seaside town, 16 kms far from Chora and 15 kms far from Gavrion. It’s a village of historical importance, since built on the position of the ancient capital town of the island.

SIGHTSEEING
The Ruins of the ancient town, where excavations brought in the light relics of the ancient agora (market) of the town, arcades and various objects, as sculptures and vessels. And the most important: The statue of god Hermes (Mercury), which is in the Museum of Andros, together with the rest important finds.

Close to Palaeopolis is another important arcaeological place of the island, Zagoria. Excavations brought in the light one of the most important geometrical settlements of Greece. Most of these finds are exposed in the Museum of Andros.

ENTERTAINMENT
In Palaeopolis there are tavernas, bars, discotheques and night clubs, usually open on weekends.

EXCURSIONS - SPORTS
You will swim at the beautiful beach in the bay of Palaeopolis, where you can go on foot.
