HERRONISSOS | |
Herronissos, which belongs to the broader region of Artemonas, is a small traditional fishing village with a small beach, mostly famous for its ceramics. There are few but very hospitable inhabitants. The once isolated settlements in the north edge of the island are now accessible from the sea, by summer excursion boats, and from the land by a motor road which is now being covered with asphalt. On the way to Herronissos the visitor comes across the agricultural settlements Trullaki and Diabroucha. |

PETALI The name Petali is held by two villages - the higher and the lower Petali. Petalia in the local dilect means rocky hills. |
AGIOS LOUKAS Agios Loukas or Ai Loukas was one of the three villages of the Community of Artemonas and it obviously owes its name to the former parish church of St. Loukas. |
EXAMBELA With the village Exambela, that is located SE of Apollonia, ends the sequence of central settlements of Sifnos. In the entrance of the village are Arades, that is rows of about ten windmills, some of which are in ruins while others are well preserved. It is the village of the poet and Academician Aristomenis Provelegios (1850-1936) and of Nikolaos Tselementes (1878-1958), the great master of cooking and confectionery. A little southern, outside the village and on the right side of the motor road is the monastery of "Panagia the Vrissiani" (1642). |
KATAVATI Towards the south and higher than Apollonia, Katavati includes the district of Saint Ioannis the Eleimon (Merciful), with the homonynous place name. |
CHRYSSOPIGI A small peninsula surrounded by crystal clear waters of the small neighboring bays and is rightfully considered the most beautiful area of Cyclades. It is located between Faros and Platis Yialos and it is 10 km far from Apollonia. SIGHTSEEING The monastery of "Panagia" which is located at the edge of the peninsula and was built on 1650 on the ruins of the old church. According to tradition, the picture of Zoodochos Pigi reached the island by sea. There are a few cells in the monastery, where visitors are allowed to stay. EXCURSIONS - SPORTS Go up the rock of Chryssopigi to enjoy the magnificent view of the endless Aegean. Swim around that same rock or swim to the sandy beach of Apokoftos. FAROS | |
Faros is located in the SE of Sifnos at a distance of 7 km from Apollonia. It is considered to be the safest port of the island and it had been the official port up to 1883. It is a peaceful fishing village with picturesque continuous sandy beaches: Fassolou, Faros and Glyfos. The local name is obviously due to the installation of a lighthouse, a large coastal lantern in the entrance of the port, to be used in navigation. This lighthouse is at present located on the right side of the port and on the side of the monastery of Stavros, from which the view is unique. |

SIGHTSEEING Near the entrance of the port lies the "petrogoleta" of Chryssopigi, a rocky island that is severed from the land and on which is located the monastery of "Panagia of Chryssopigi", the protector of Sifnos. On the west side of the bay, the remnants of the installations for the shipping of ore, for its transportation and processing at Lavrio, are preserved. ENTERTAINMENT Taverns and restaurants. |
EXCURSIONS - SPORTS You will enjoy swimming at the shallow waters of Faros and Fassolou. TRANSPORTS You'll get there by bus from Artemonas.
