PLATIS YIALOS | |
Platis Yialos is the most popular beach of the island and it is considered to be one of the longest beaches of Cyclades. It was once a center for pottery workshops, but even today, the visitor may find products of the pottery of Sifnos and get acquainted with the way they are produced. |
SIGHTSEEING In the north, on the top of the hill, the monastery of "Panagia of the Mountain" built on 1813, overlooks the village and the view from there is fascinating. In the northeast you'll find the White Tower, remnants of an ancient tower. At the northeast, at the entrance of the bay you will find the uninhabited island of Kytriani or Kypriani, on which there is only one building, the church of "Panagia Kypriani". At the northwest there is a well organised camping area. |

KASTRO | |||
Kastro has been inhabited from the antiquity until now and it is built on the ancient acropolis, the "asty" as it is mentioned by Herodotos, and it is actually an open museum. Kastro was the capital of Sifnos during the ancient, medieval and more recent years until 1836, as well as the seat of the Archbishopric of Sifnos (1646 - 1859). The visitor enters the Castle through the old entrances-arcades, the "lozies", which during older times were secured and protected by war towers. At the foot of the hill of Kastro, one can find Yialos, or Seralia. |

SIGHTSEEING Visit the old churches that are saved till today, like "Agia Eleoussa", "Agios Dimitrios" and "Agii Saranta". The old port Seralia where you will see the remains of a medieval port. MUSEUM The Archaeological Museum with a rich collection of sculptures and ceramics from the Geometric till the Byzantine times. |

ARTEMONAS | |
Artemonas had been the seat of the homonymous community from 1914 to 1998. It is located in the north of Apollonia at a distance of 1,5km. It is the true jewel of Sifnos, with mansions of the neoclassic period with gardens filled with flowers. High above, at the top of the hill, stand the old rows of windmills, only two of which are in good condition. From there, the view of Sifnos is panoramic. One can see the neighboring islands, Kastro, the central settlements and even Kamares. In Artemonas, apart from the bakeries, there are also pastry workshops and a pottery workshop. |

EXCURSIONS - SPORTS All you need to do is follow the picturesque footpaths to visit the villages of Pano Petali and Kato Petali, which are located between Artemonas and the capital of the island. Artemonas, the villages of Pano Petali and Kato Petali and Exambela are settlements of unique architecture, where the walls, the courtyards and the narrow paved roads ("sokakia") are built with stone and are perfectly adjusted to the environment. TRANSPORTS From Artemonas there are busses to Apollonia, Kastro, Exambela, Katavati, Faros and Platis Yialos. |
